Kentucky Chamber Legislative Update with Ashli Watts and Congressman James Comer

Kentucky Chamber President and CEO Ashli Watts and Congressman James Comer will meet with the Henderson Chamber to discuss issues important to the business community including the 2021 legislative session, recovering from the coronavirus pandemic, election results, and Kentucky Chamber initiatives.

Watts will present on the top issues for the Kentucky Chamber during the 2021 session, which are included in the Kentucky Chamber’s 2021 Legislative Agenda.

The business community’s top priorities for the 2021 legislative session include:

• Invest in Infrastructure
• Continue Pro-Growth Tax Reform
• Support Substance Use Disorder Recovery Efforts
• Reform Criminal Justice System
• Enact COVID-19 Liability Protections
• Modernize Unemployment Insurance
• Invest in Education
• Focus on Childcare
• Support for Signature Industries
 

Henderson Chamber 2021 to priorities include:

Business and Economic Recovery
Unemployment Insurance
Funding of Unemployment insurance (not just funding, but system infrastructure)
Legal Liability
Support of protection of employers from legal liability from covid cases in the workplace
Infrastructure
I-69 support and funding
Gas tax support to assist with funding options / user tax
Broadband support(immediate need for remote learners, future need of fiber) this area of state is underserved in relation to other areas of the state with data
Education and Workforce Development
Child care providers there are not enough
Impact due to kids learning at home long term with children falling behind at grade level

This virtual meeting is part of the Kentucky Chamber’s 2021 legislative preview tour aimed at meeting with local chambers of commerce and their members and discussing issues important to Kentucky’s business community.
